Backyard Bird Sanctuary

It's been a pretty good weekend so far. I got a little "Mom-time" yesterday when I went out for a hiarcut and a little shopping. Got some books at Borders ((including the new Hellboy, though they suck and no longer carry BPRD.
Did get an really fun jacket on clearance though. Bomber Jacket in fake leather. I would have preferred real leather but that would have cost LOT more. Then I went home and we watched The Men Who Stare At Goats and Office Space. Office Space was better.

Our backyard, by the way, with a refilled feeder and a new suet-cage, has become a regular backyard bird sanctuary, which has been really exciting.

Bird list:
Female American Goldfinches
Pine Grossbeak
Red Breasted Nuthatch
Chickadee
Bluejay
Robin
Blue-gray Gnatcatcher
House Sparrow
Chipping Sparrow
Downy Woodpecker (male and female)
What might be a Hairy Woodpecker
Song Sparrow
Fox Sparrow maybe.

And one chipmunk who climbed the door and had a look inside. In the past we've also had a male and female Cardinal and a Red Squirrel.

Spring Snow

Well, apparently Spring weather decided it wanted a short break: Yesterday we had chilly rain, this morning when we woke up, there was a powdery covering of snow over all the places where the snow had melted off. Pretty but really kind of depressing. I was enjoying the warmer weather and taking walks, and I don't really want to take mini monster out for a stroll if it's cold. We'll see how it does later today.

Finally found a good bumper pad for Mini's bed, more important now that he's flipped himself over without help. ((Belly to back)) Which rolled him partially across the crib. I really don't want him smacking his head.

He's being extremely helpful right now and grabbing my sleeve while I type.

Baby Blerp

I bring you the most deceptive trick in Baby's Arsenal:
The Stealth Blerp.

Parents: you know this one. You're cuddling with your sweetie, goofing around. They give you a BIG ol' grin... and then blorp a metric ton of spit up on your pants.

Ain't parenthood grand?

Spring has Sprung

Spring is really settling in nicely here, and the weather is BEAUTIFUL. The driveway is a strip of mud, but thats ok, because we kick off our shoes at the door anyway when we get in, and the weather is warm enough that I felt ok putting Mini Monster in one of his slings ((I broke out one of the "Taylor Made" slings with the ring set up.)) and walked up and down the street.

Mini Monster of course slept through the entire thing. He's currently chilling out in his swing watching me type.

He's also smiling now, including without prompting, which is a lot of fun. He's figured out that he can set us off into giggles by grinning.

Its also going to be interesting in coming weeks because I'm going to try and actually run a Table Top campaign for role-playing. Which means I have to either locate my dice or use my husbands. Oh it's so NICE to be married to another geek.

I do have to figure out what to feed everyone though. Hmmm. What's mood food for a prohibition era Pulp Fiction game?

Inspiration, unfettered by the need for sleep

Have you ever noticed some of the most interesting and surreal ideas hit you when you're awake at some ungodly hideous hour of the morning? Like between two and four in the morning.

Anyway it seems to work that way for me sometimes. I came up with an idea for an 'solo' post for one of my online RP characters at two AM that I absolutely could NOT get out of my head until I wrote it down. 1060 words of stuff I thought of when I would have rather been sleeping.

Also, my sister bought us a copy of Ponyo. That was awesome. Definite nods to the ORIGINAL little Mermaid myth, including the seafoam thing, but cuter and not tragic. And naturally fifty -thousand- times better than Disney. The only thing that seems to come out of Disney films that I enjoy are insidiously catchy tunes. ((Disney fans, please don't kill me. It's true. I hate Disney.))
I think my favorite character was Fujimoto, though I loved the animation and how much work went into some of the smallest things, like the boy wading into the water.

Lastly: A question. Since I became a mom, I've noticed that complete and utter strangers will ask me if I'm Breastfeeding. ((I'm not going to tell you. Sorry.))
...I really want to know what the hell is up with that. I mean it's one thing for my Pediatrician to know... but strangers at the supermarket??? WHY would you ask that?
I haven't chewed anyone's ear off yet but I actually think it's an insanely rude question, and not really anyone's business.
Although the next time someone reaches into my cart and pulls back my son's hood while he's sleeping, I'm gonna smack some fingers. :p

People really have no concept of personal space these days.

Prime Redirective

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but there's something going on with my blog page, at least on this end. Unless I very hastily log in, it redirects me to random BS pages I don't have the slightest interest in, and I know I'm not clicking anything. ((I'm running a thorough virus check as we speak.))

Is this happening to anyone else?

EDIT: Got it. The stupid hit counter decided to implode.

Mixed Luck, Glitter Sheep and Technobunny

I've had some pretty mixed luck lately, won a couple raffles on GaiaOnline for 'pets' ((basically read: cute animal art for your signature if you've never been on the site.)) Which was pretty cool. Generaly speaking, the laws of probability tend to be against me, no matter how short the raffle list, so winning two in one day was pretty cool.
And it was almost enough to make up for me walking into a metal folding chair in our kitchen. I bruised my toe fairly impressively. It still hurts, but from the look of it it could be lots worse. ((And No I don't think I broke it.))

I'm also most of the way through knitting what I called "Glittersheep", an Fuzzy Mitten Lamb with black yarn and a black and silver strand of Lion Brand's "Midnight Mohair", and a very technicolor bunny made out of Noro Yarn. Given the interruptions I'll probably be done in a couple days.
