So the Capricorn is mostly finished. I need to make horn nubs and a tail fin, but Mini Monster seems enormously taken with it as is. Congrats Knitpicks, he approves of your palate yarn! He and his unfinished capricorn are currently in his swing having a grand old time while I write. It's been a busy day, we went out shopping to get stuff for him at BJ's, and also to get mothers day goodies for his Grandmothers. We settled on earrings and Panera Gift Cards.
I know half of what I'm getting, but not the other half. Half of it is a new "Batman" babydoll t-shirt. My old one wore out, so I'm getting a Batman-Beyond one. I'm seriously looking forward to it getting here.
I also was loaned the DVD's for the A&E series for Horratio Hornblower.
This was classic geek time for me. My sister and I enjoyed listening to my parents read us the Hornblower Novels, and the series was also fun. I'm enjoying geeking to them all over again.

Capricranky
Have you ever known someone who seems to live specifically to disagree with you? Not just disagree with you, but disagree with you in a way that makes you feel that they think you have the brain of a neanderthal? The ones that disagree with you even while they smile and brightly agree with a friend of theirs, who says EXACTLY what you just did?
I know one of these people.
And although it goes against my blog intention of trying to be positive I will admit this person DRIVES. ME. CRAZY.
I think I've got some kind of complex because I keep trying to talk to them occasionally and be civil, like somehow they'll have changed since the last time we did this dance.
Naturally this never happens.
Of course the one good thing I -can- say for them is how much more they make me appreciate the husband who loves me, supports me, and respects me, because nothing makes you realize how valuable respect is until you've been abraded by someone who disrespects you for existing.
It also makes me that much more glad I have my son, who has the most awesome smile.

The Capricorn is going alright. I've finished the body, and both legs. ((Front legs. No rear.)) and now I need to do: head. Ears. Horns. Tail Fin, and possibly 'mane ridge'.
Knock on wood!

Best or Bust
It's been a wild couple of days:
I forgot to mention the order I placed with Knitpicks came. I was impressed with the speed, and I'm currently being impressed by the yarn. I ordered two kits, a ball winder, a couple needles and some random yarn, including some "Palate" yarn (fingering weight) I'm using to knit one of my 'famous' toy mods.
I'm using a severe bastardization of Fuzzy Mittens Lamb pattern to make a Capricorn. So far I think it'
s going to turn out pretty well. I shifted yarns when the decreases started and started using a purl stitch to make it look more like scales. After that I'm making an much slower decrease so that I get a slow, tapering tail. Horns will be done like the horns on the Fauno doll I did for my sister. Fins I'm still in debate on. I don't know if I'll knit them or make them out of cloth, but I think it'll turn out ok in the end.
Unfortunately I still can't do photos. I went to Best Buy to find a new charger, but although they carry the camera... They don't have a charger that works with it. The employee who helped me was at least pleasant, which is better than most of the stories I hear about them on The Consumerist... but still. The good customer service didn't really help me in the end.

Rain Rain Go Away
Come again another day. Preferably NOT when I have to take Mini Monster out to a Dr's appointment.
He had a checkup today, he's around...damn, I think it was 12-14 lbs? I got a little distracted because he also got some vaccinations. Three shots, two in one leg, one in the other. Poor kid, he was SO not impressed.
He handled it like a trooper though and I got him calmed down fairly quickly. Unfortunately it wasn't raining when we went in, and it was when we got out, so I had to cover the poor kid with my coat.

Yogi follows Mickey
So just to make our day, following the Mouse invasion, (Fortunately he seems to have been a lone agent.) we had a BEAR.
It came up to the door even, and yanked down both of our feeders. It also yanked down the suet feeder and the finch feeder from the crab-apple tree. We've only recovered the suet cage and one of the door feeders. It even left a muddy footprint on the side of the house.
It's the first time I've had a bear be that close (even though we didn't see it.) and it was a little more freaky because we're semi suburban.
So we're going to leave the feeders down for a while.

Damnit Mickey
So we've apparently got mice now. We had them previously in the basement but took care of it with a couple traps. Now they've apparently sent a second wave which came upstairs somehow. We found this out the night of their invasion, when the sound of chip bags being crinkled got my attention.
My husband investigated, and found that our Disney-Glorified-Plague-Spreader had pooped on the table, the fridge, the floor, the counter behind the sugar canister....
Which probably means there's more than one but we did nail one of the little bastards last night. We got those funky looking disposable traps that don't have a visible spring. I figured that would be a good idea because of Mini Monster and Bing. Bing hasn't been over for a while but I'm definitely going to have them over sometime, and I really don't want small, investigative fingers slammed in a mousetrap. That and just being able to pick up the trap and chuck it in the trash, and load it without fear of my OWN fingers safety is pretty nice.
The Bird Feeders are still getting plenty of attention. We've had a white throated Sparrow join the crowd, and I saw a bluejay hanging on the Suet feeder. I did notice that the plain old generic suet/seed cakes aren't getting as much attention as the fruit one did, but I've got a couple of them to use up before I switch back to fruit.
Tilmani and I are also debating picking up a Blueberry bush or so. They've got some at the supermarket. Tilmani likes blueberries, and we think Mini Monster will also enjoy it. Even if he doesn't like to eat them, ((But I think he will)) there's something fun about picking your own fruit.
The running snigger in the house hold at the moment is "Gripe Water". Mini is occasionally prone to being colicy, if not often, so we got Cholic Tablets and a liquid version of colic-cure called Gripe Water. ((Ginger and... something.)) Honestly we haven't slipped any Gripe Water into his formula yet, but he LOVES the tablets. You put them under his tounge and let them disolve, and there must be something about the taste because he not only relaxes quickly, but he -GRINS-. He latched onto Tilmani's finger the first time we gave him one and chewed on it cheerfully.
Between him enjoying the taste and the fact it seems to be very soothing when nothing else seems to do it. ((I think he's giving himself a stomach ache when he gets hungry and eats too fast.)), I'm hardly going to argue with them.
But yeah, just the name "Gripe water"... you gotta admit thats pretty funny.

I'm on my fifth shirt and second pair of pants today. All of them were spit up on. One of them was peed on AND spit up on. Most of them were drooled on.
Then I look over and watch my son having a ball with his play mat and grabbing the ducks bill instead of the easy to reach wings for the first time (at least that I've spotted), and smiling...
And it's worth it.
